Why is camping so popular now?

In the past, at this time of the year, many of us would be looking forward to our expensive overseas holiday.  But with the credit crunch biting more and more into our disposable income many of us are searching for cheaper alternatives ways to get our R&R.   This is why camping has become so popular this year and I am willing to bet for the next few years at least.

Camping used to have a poor image, soggy socks;  rain dripping into your tent; dull campsites and that horrible smell you get from wet canvas all seem have blighted our camping experience, well at least my camping experiences.

However, today’s tents and campsites are a lot different.  The modern family tent can now withstand torrential rain and high winds and not only that they also have bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room – a proper little home from home!   The luxuries do not end there, what modern family tent is not complete without  a cooker, a tent heater, a portable washing machine, blow up beds and a portable TV.   The campsite have also raised their game with showers, on site entertainment, shops and swimming pools.

Of course buying a good tent comes at a cost.  A top of the range family tent comes in at around £800 and together with your camping equipment and trailer you’ll probably end up paying around £2,000.  Now compare this with what an average family spend of £3,000 on a two week break in Spain.  With the family tent you can use it time and again and is an investment which not only saves you money but brings the family closer together.    Now you know why camping has become so popular.
